Please read all of Chapter 16 carefully and do 16.1, 16.2, 16.4, 16.7, 16.20, 16.23 and 16.30. Alison and I will discuss 12.1 and 16.2 with you only if you bring a complete written answer for us to look at -- except that we will always be glad to define words or re-phrase questions.

Also, answer these questions.

• Show that for any distribution, the least-squares estimate of the population mean is the sample mean.
• Starting with expression 16.28, assume that all the µi values are equal to a single number µ, but the ni need not be identical. Calculate E(MSTR); show your work.
