STA218s07 Computer Assignment 2

Due at the beginning of class before the quiz is handed out on Thursday Jan. 25

Put the data from Exercise 2.40 into an Excel spreadsheet. Use Excel to calculate s² two ways: using the definitional formula on page 48, and the computing formula on page 49. Algebraically, they must yield the same answer. Of course you can check yur work with the var function, but don't show this part.

For this assignment, please hand in two printouts, one showing the numbers, and the other showing the formulas. If the numbers and formulas do not correspond, you will receive at most 50% on this assignment. Please staple the sheets together and write your name and student number clearly on the top sheet.
