Common questions students ask about enrolling in STA220.

Do all sections of STA220 cover the same material?

Yes, all sections of STA220 cover the same material, and have the same final exam.

Do life science students have to enroll in the health sciences section, and environmental sciences students in the environmental sciences section?

No.  All sections of the course are open to all students.

Are the prerequisites the same for every section?

Yes, the prerequisites are the same for every section.

Do all sections satisfy any program requirement of STA220?

Yes, any section can be used to satisfy any program requirement of STA220.

What is the difference between the discipline and non-discipline specific sections?

All sections use the same online materials, but the discipline specific sections (health and life sciences, environmental sciences, social work) focus on examples from those disciplines in class time or in online sessions, while the other sections consider examples from a variety of areas.

What is the purpose of the online social work section?

This section is intended for students who intend to pursue graduate study in social work.

What is the difference between the in-class sections (L0101, L0201, L0301, L0401, L5101) and the online sections (L9901, L9902)?

Each week students enrolled in all sections (in-class and online) are required to review the weekÕs material (videos, notes, chapter in textbook) and complete an online quiz.   In-class sections will use class time to review the weekÕs material, discuss interesting examples and participate in stimulating learning activities.  The online class will have a mandatory synchronous class every other week, where concepts will be reviewed and online learning activities will be conducted.  The examples and learning activities in all sections will be used to illustrate statistical concepts at a deeper level.
